An explosion at a Connecticut power plant Sunday morning has claimed five lives.

At least 12 others were injured when a blast at the Kleen Energy Systems plant in Middletown, Conn., set off a fire during a testing of the plant’s natural gas lines.

Rescue crews were working through Monday to see if more people could possibly be trapped in the aftermath.

The power plant is still under construction and fire officials at the scene believe numerous contractors were on site at the time of the explosion Sunday, making it difficult to determine how many people are unaccounted.

Workers were attempting to purge natural gas lines which touched-off the explosion. It’s desiged to produce energy using natural gas and was to be finished and on-line by the middle of this year, according to a Washington Post report.
