CPSC Agency Chair Resigns

A federal official under fire for her agency’s response to Chinese-made drywall is relinquishing her leadership post after repeated criticism for failure to act quickly on the issue.

Nancy Nord, the CPSC’s acting chair, says she plans to step down from the chairmanship next week but remain on the board until her term expires in 2012.

The commission is leading a multi-agency investigation into the issue of Chinese drywall, but has said it will take several months to determine the drywall’s health effects.

President Barack Obama has nominated former South Carolina Education Superintendent Inez Moore Tenenbaum to be the next chair of the three-member commission.
