Kingston Ash Pond Passed Inspection Right Before Collapse
February 27th, 2009 meg
Inspectors deemed the Kingston Fossil Plant’s fly ash pond structurally sound just two months before its catastrophic collapse.
According to a Tennessee Valley Authority report, the raised pond’s walls seeped water and were scarred in places by erosion, but overall “in good shape”.
According to TVA engineer Chris Buttram, nothing the engineers saw foreshadowed the collapse.
Previous inspection reports outline a history of leaks, erosion, seepages and waterlogged walls at the plant
