Sweatshirts Recalled for Strangulation Hazard
March 31st, 2008 joshua
Kidz World Inc. and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) are recalling about 5,000 boys’ hooded sweatshirts.
The sweatshirts have a drawstring through hood which poses a strangulation hazard to children, the CPSC reports. The federal government issued guidelines for manufacturing drawstring products for children in 1996.
So far, no injuries have been reported from the recalled sweatshirts. The garments recalled from Kidz World are hooded and have a zipper up the front. They were sold in boys’ sizes small and medium. The style number and “High Energy” or “Energy Clothing Company” are printed on the sewn-in neck tag.
The recall includes the following styles: Tan and brown plaid, white/black, blue/grey, red/navy, and navy blue. The shirts were sold at AJ Wright, Bealls Outlet, A&E Stores and Happy Day Stores nationwide from October through November 2007 for about $15.
Consumers are being instructed to remove the drawstring from the sweatshirts, or contact Kidz World Inc. for a refund.
